Man in East Memphis robs bank. Tells bank employees ‘Blame George Zimmerman’.

And then kills himself after leading police on a car chase.  He had just gotten out of prison for robbing banks, gets out of prison after a 20-year sentence, robs another bank, blames it on George Zimmerman, runs from police, and then kills himself.  It’s tragic that this guy committed suicide, but this is just added evidence how insane many (not all) of these Zimmerman-haters are.

MEMPHIS, TN –

(WMC-TV) – A victim in an East Memphis bank robbery told police that the bank robber told bank customers it was George Zimmerman’s fault.

“He forced me to the ground,” the caller told dispatch. “And he said, ‘Blame this on George Zimmerman.’ I thought he was gonna shoot all of us.”

Memphis’ 911 dispatch took multiple calls from people who were inside the Wells Fargo bank at 6445 Poplar Avenue on Tuesday, July 23, around 9:45 a.m.

“There’s … got people down on the floor. There’s 10 people down on the floor. He’s walking out right now,” said one of the callers.

Several of the callers whispered, fearful of speaking too loudly and alerting the robber of their whereabouts. One caller estimated that there were about 10 people in the bank at the time. He stayed on the phone with dispatch, followed the bank robber, and gave police his exact location until officers arrived.

The suspect was later identified as 51-year-old Marvin Amerson, a serial bank robber, who became known as the “counter squatter” in the early 90s. He wound up serving more than 20 years in federal prison.

After last week’s robbery, he reportedly left Wells Fargo on foot. He walked several blocks, got into a white minivan, and led police on a low-speed chase through East Memphis before crashing into two other SUVs at Perkins Extended and Walnut Grove Road. Investigators say Amerson then shot and killed himself while sitting inside the minivan.

No one was hurt during the bank robbery. A woman in one of the other SUVs was taken to the hospital by ambulance. She was treated and released.

The 911 tapes will be available for listening right here on WMCTV.COM shortly.
