Actor Bob Hoskins passes away at the age of 71.

This makes me sad.  I saw Who Framed Roger Rabbit at least five times in the theater when I was a kid.  He was also great in Hook with Dustin Hoffman and Robin Williams.  Rest in peace.

(CNN) — Bob Hoskins, the pugnacious British actor known for playing gangsters, tough guys and working-class gentlemen in such films as “Who Framed Roger Rabbit,” “The Long Good Friday” and “Mermaids,” has died, his publicist Clair Dobbs said Wednesday.

He was 71.

His passing comes nearly two years after he retired from acting following a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease.

Hoskins was perhaps best known for 1988’s live-action and animation hybrid “Who Framed Roger Rabbit.” In the comedy, he played detective Eddie Valiant, who hates “toons” — cartoon figures who live in a separate showbiz world bordering Valiant’s 1940s Los Angeles — and takes up the task of proving the innocence of the cartoon title character, accused of murder. The film was the second-highest grossing movie of 1988, after “Rain Man.”

Newly released e-mails prove a coordinated White House cover-up directly after 9/11 Benghazi attack.

The Obama White House knowingly lied, lied, lied, lied, lied to the American people about what happened in Benghazi on September 11, 2012.  And they’re still lying.  And now we finally have the proof of a coordinated cover-up within the White House that was designed to blunt the effect of the attack on Obama’s re-election chances against Mitt Romney.  Let’s see what the American people do about it.  Or if they even care anymore.

Top-ranking members of the Obama administration coordinated in 2012 to portray the deadly attacks on the U.S. facilities in Benghazi, Libya, as being “rooted in [an] Internet video” and not “a broader failure or policy,” according to newly declassified emails.

The emails, released Tuesday by conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch, show then-White House Deputy Strategic Communications Adviser Ben Rhodes collaborating with other senior White House officials to shield President Barack Obama from criticism.

Several top White House staffers, including political strategist David Plouffe and press secretary Jay Carney, were involved in these emails, some of which were circulated just a day before then-United Nations Ambassador Susan Rice appeared on television to blame the attacks on a YouTube video.

The “goal” going forward, one Rhodes email said, is “to underscore that these protests are rooted in [an] Internet video, and not a broader failure or policy.”

The 41 new Benghazi-related State Department documents released Tuesday show that Rice received her talking points directly from the highest reaches of Obama’s inner circle.

Arizona man claims his Islamic belief allows him to kill his wife.

AVONDALE, Ariz. –Police say a valley man threatened to kill his wife, telling his victim “Islamic Law” gave him the right to kill her.
Ansar Muhammad, 43, is facing several charges, including assault and imprisonment.

According to the police report, on April 26, Muhammad sexually assaulted the victim, held her against her will while threatening to kill her, punched and strangulated her, causing physical injuries at their home near 112th Avenue and Encanto Boulevard.

Police say the victim fled to a neighbor’s home to call them after the suspect fell asleep.

Muhammad was detained outside his residence upon police arrival and refused to make any statements.

In the report, police say their investigation determined that Muhammad and the victim were arguing about her having an affair when “Ansar picked the victim up, carrying her like a baby and put her in their vehicle against her will.”  He then proceeded to drive to the rear of a nearby Walgreens store where “Ansar began to assault the victim by punching her multiple times, leaving physical injuries on her face, neck, back, chest and legs.”

When the victim continued to try to get away and told him to stop, police say he told the victim he was going to kill her because he had the right due to his “Islamic Belief.”

The NBA overreacts and drops the hammer on L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling.

The NBA has issued a lifetime ban for Clippers owner Donald Sterling for a conversation he had about minorities with his girlfriend…..while being recorded without his knowledge.

Don’t get me wrong, assuming this isn’t some kind of staged publicity stunt by Sterling and his girlfriend, Sterling is obviously a racist and a hypocrite.

But a lifetime ban over a private conversation?  Seriously?

Lifetime bans are handed out for compromising the integrity of the game you are a part of, like what happened to Pete Rose and Joe Jackson in Major League Baseball, not for making racist comments privately to your girlfriend while you’re being secretly recorded.  Again, I’m not defending Sterling’s comments at all, I’m saying that the NBA has overreacted.  Now this is not completely surprising given that the vast majority of the NBA is constituted of black players and that some of Sterling’s comments were directed specifically at Magic Johnson, a Hall Of Fame former player, but I’m not entirely certain that a ban like this would stand up in a court of law if it could be challenged that way.  Sterling’s comments were recorded without his knowledge while in a private conversation with his girlfriend.  I’m not a lawyer, but I think that’s called entrapment?  Just saying.

The NBA should have condemned Sterling’s comments as they are racist and hypocritical, but this really comes off to me as a move to placate its black players, former and current, and its black fan base, which is considerable.  Magic Johnson absolutely had the right idea when he tweeted that he would no longer be attending Clipper games as long as Sterling is the owner.  That’s what you do.  You boycott, not start throwing out lifetime bans for ignorant, secretly recorded conversations made in private that may or may not be staged.  For all the NBA knows, this is a giant publicity stunt by Sterling.  If it is, they fell for it hook, line, and sinker.  If they aren’t in on it themselves, that is.

44 murders in three days in Chicago. Mainstream media largely silent.

Chicago has become the murder capital of the country and has a higher death toll over the last decade than American troops killed in Afghanistan.  Think about that.

Not coincidentally, they also have some of the strictest gun control laws.  And also not coincidentally, the city is run by Democrats, featuring Rahm Emanuel as mayor, a committed Obama Democrat who served as the POTUS’s chief of staff.

Forty four people were shot over the last three days in a bloody epidemic sweeping Rahm Emanuel’s Chicago. Yet, CBS has, thus far, ignored the crime wave. In contrast, ABC’s Good Morning America and CBS This Morning on Tuesday both briefly covered the violence in the city run by Barack Obama’s former chief of staff.
